Modern Courtyard and Balcony in West London

Good garden design doesn’t have to be grand. Sometimes it’s best to keep things simple.

For this project the client wanted a Mediterranean feel – which for me meant returning to my roots. The simple, symmetrical design of the courtyard saw York stone paving flanked by olive trees and low planting in two small flower beds. At the far end, a bespoke bench with three more olive trees and hydrangeas behind it. And to complete the design, a new cherry tree in one corner to match the existing cherry tree in the other.

The balcony picked up the same theme, with two olive trees and low planting in two planters, and trellis for privacy.

It’s one of the gardens I still look after. On a sunny day, I can almost imagine I’m back in the south of Spain.
